Under the domain of Oxóssi, Erva-de-Santa-Maria / Mastruz acts as a conductor of firmeza, opening paths and breaking stagnation.
Also known as mastruz or menstrus, it is a consecrated indigenous and Afro-Brazilian remedy, revered in terreiros of Caboclo for its powerful healing sap.
In the traditional garrafadas of Central Brazil, the raizeiro masters recognized in the knotted shape of the root the living metaphor of firmeza: the capacity to tie knots in adversity and remain standing even in arid lands.
In the caboclo medicine of the Amazon and Northeast, milk beaten with mastruz is traditionally taken after contusions and intense muscular efforts.
