Rue is the queen of protection herbs in Brazil. With its strong aroma and potent energetic properties, it has been used for centuries to ward off the evil eye, break demands, and cleanse charged environments.
The foundation of this herb in the terreiro, with the orixá (orisha) that rules it and what changes from house to house, is in Rue in Umbanda: the Leaf of Exu that Ogum Carries.
💡 "Popular belief says that rue "pulls" negative energies toward itself, so, when a rue plant withers without explanation, it is believed that it absorbed something heavy that was coming to the house."
Navigate through the different facets of the plant: from its native biome to the ritual preparation in the garrafada and in the terreiro.

Arruda is one of the oldest herbs used in Brazilian popular magic. Its fame for protecting against the evil eye spans centuries and cultures, from the Romans, who cultivated it against plagues, to popular Catholicism, where it was placed behind the ear to avoid envy.
In the traditional garrafadas of Central Brazil, the raizeiro masters recognized in the knotted shape of the root the living metaphor of firmeza: the capacity to tie knots in adversity and remain standing even in arid lands.
Popular belief says that arruda "pulls" negative energies toward itself, which is why, when an arruda plant withers without explanation, it is believed that it absorbed something heavy coming toward the house.
