Illustration of Oxóssi

Oxóssi is the hunter Orixá of a single arrow, the one who hits the target on the first try, without wasting. Pierre Verger tells that, in the festival of the new yams of Ifé, a bird sent by the witches landed on the king's palace, and only the hunter managed to take it down, with a single arrow. For this reason, he is the provider and the protector.
