Sacred Jurema

The sacred tradition of the Northeast, daughter of the forests, of the indigenous people, and of the Brazilian land. The tree that carries the secrets of the masters and the enchantments.

Northeastern Tradition

What is Jurema Sagrada?

A Jurema Sagrada is a spiritual tradition deeply rooted in the indigenous culture of the Northeast of Brazil. It has as a central element the Mimosa tenuiflora, the Jurema tree, a native plant of the caatinga with psychoactive and spiritual properties recognized by indigenous peoples for centuries.

Also called Catimbó in some regions, Jurema is a practice that involves communication with spirits called Mestres and Mestras spirits that were once healers, indigenous people, benzedeiras, and wise figures of the northeastern sertão.

Over time, Jurema merged with elements of Umbanda and Candomblé in many terreiros, especially in the Northeast, generating Umbanda Nordestina or Jurema Umbandista.

The Science of the Masters

The cult in the houses of Jurema

In the houses of Jurema, knowledge is called science the knowledge of herbs, prayers, toadas, and the paths of the enchanted. This knowledge is guarded and transmitted by the mestre juremeiro, who conducts the rituals and watches over the principles of the tradition, inherited from the indigenous and African peoples of the Northeast.

The rituals are marked by the linhas and toadas, chants that call the Mestres, Mestras and Caboclos for the work of healing and guidance. The pipe, smoke cleansing (defumação) and sacred herbs help to open the paths and clear the energies, always within respect for the sacred.

Jurema is, above all, a religion of the earth and healing. For those who follow this path, Joia Mística Laroyê offers pipes, herbs, incense burners, candles, and images, with welcoming service in Extrema, Minas Gerais and shipping to all of Brazil.
