Question 1 of 5

Who is the candle for?

How does the test choose your candle?

The first question is who the candle is for: an orixá (orisha), a Umbanda spirit, a saint, or the Romani people, or your own prayer request, in the right color. Then comes the area of the request, your case, the force that calls you (the waters, the woods, the fire, or the light) and the way you want the request to happen.

Each candle on the altar has a profile based on what it serves: the Oxum candle is for love, prosperity, and sweet waters; the Exu Tranca Ruas candle is for path and protection; the green one is the woods of Oxóssi (Oshosi) and accompanies health. The test adds up points and shows the candle that best matches, with two more options.

Colors change a bit from house to house. In Umbanda, Ogum (Ogun) usually wears red; in Candomblé ketu he wears dark blue and green. If your terreiro teaches differently, follow your house. See the complete table in colors of the orixás.
