Babosa / Aloe Vera

Heals, discharges, and regenerates the spiritual field

Aloe Vera is one of the most powerful herbs in the spiritual healing practices of Umbanda and Candomblé. Linked to Obaluaê and Omolu (Omulu), orixás (orishas) who rule over diseases and health, it carries the force of regeneration and deep cleansing, acting on both the physical body and the spiritual body, dissolving energies of illness and renewing the practitioner's axé.

Ritual Precepts with the Leaf

*"Kó s'ewé, kó s'òrìṣà"*: Without leaf there is no Orixá. Every plant is sacred and requires respect with the axé:

  • ✓ Hot ritual bath of strength: always from the neck down, protecting the ori.
  • ✓ Ask permission from Ossaim and the guardians of the forest before handling or boiling.
  • ✓ Always discard on clean earth, a garden, or a pot. Never in common trash.
The axé of the leaf responds to the intention and the reverence of the heart of the one who prepares it.

Historical Root & Tradition

Aloe Vera in Brazilian Ancestral Wisdom

Aloe vera originates in the Arabian Peninsula and northern Africa, and was widely used in Ancient Egypt in protection rituals. With the transatlantic trade, it was brought by enslaved Africans who recognized it as a plant of healing and protection, integrating it into the practices of terreiros as one of the main herbs of Omolu and Obaluaê, orixás owners of health and epidemics.

In the traditional garrafadas of Central Brazil, the raizeiro masters recognized in the knotted shape of the root the living metaphor of firmeza: the capacity to tie knots in adversity and remain standing even in arid lands.
