The Cobra Coral Caboclo candle is for those who need to shed their skin. It bears the label of this caboclo and two colors: yellow on top and green at the bottom, the main colors of Oxumaré (Oshumare), the rainbow serpent. The coral snake of the name is the forest snake, beautiful and respected, which does not attack those who pass with care. It is lit at the point of the caboclos of the terreiro, on the home congá, and by those who want to leave an old phase behind and protect themselves from others' venom.

Cobra Coral appears in the lists of forest caboclos and of feathered caboclos (de pena) of Umbanda, and in Candomblé de caboclo it is one of the names linked to Oxumaré. Other houses set it with the other caboclos, under Oxóssi (Oshosi), only with green. The most common statues show him as a tall man, with a staff in his hand, with a coral snake next to his body. The greeting is that of every caboclo, Okê Caboclo!, and the day varies: Tuesday for those who follow Oxumaré, Thursday for those who follow Oxóssi.

The Cobra Coral candle does not return venom to anyone. It makes the snake shed its old skin: it helps you leave behind what has already died, to close yourself against envy without becoming a distrustful person, and to keep the good cycle spinning, like the rainbow that connects the sky to the earth.

What is it for

What is the Cobra Coral Caboclo Candle for

The Caboclo Cobra Coral candle is yellow on top and green on the bottom, the colors of Oxumaré, to whom many houses link this caboclo. It is lit to request renewal, defense against envy and gossip, strength in a treatment, and continuity of what started well.

  • Shedding skin and starting over

After the end of a relationship, a job, or a bad phase that lasted too long. The candle asks the caboclo for courage to let go of what became old, without dragging the dead skin along.

  • Defense against envy and gossip

For those who feel that their own growth attracted the evil eye and a bad tongue. The coral snake does not attack for no reason, but no one messes with it: it is this calm defense that is requested.

  • Strength during a treatment

Caboclo works with leaf and with healing, and the serpent is an ancient symbol of body renewal. Light it while following the doctor, requesting spirit and a good recovery.

  • Maintaining a gain that started

Oxumaré is linked to continuity and the wealth that turns. When a new business or job started well, the candle asks that the cycle continues and does not break in the middle.

  • Seeing who is false up close

For the phases in which we suspect someone and do not know who. Ask the caboclo for the snake's eye: attentive, quiet, and without needing to make a scene to protect oneself.

Caboclo of the forest, of the serpent, and of renewal

The candle carries his label and the request goes in his name. The name brings the coral snake, beautiful and feared, which only defends itself when provoked. It is this serene defense, along with renewal, that the candle calls for.

Prayer to light

Prayer of the Caboclo Cobra Coral candle for renewal and defense

“Okê Caboclo! Your Cobra Coral, who walks calmly through the woods and does not fear poison, I light this yellow and green light and call your name. Teach me to shed the old skin without fear, as the serpent sheds its own at the right time. What in me has already died, let it stay behind on the path. What comes from outside with the poison of envy, of gossip, and of greed, let it hit my new skin and not enter. Give me an attentive eye to see who is false and calmness not to respond with the same poison. May what started well in my life continue to turn, like the rainbow that connects the sky to the earth. With permission from Pai Oxumaré and Pai Oxóssi, Okê Caboclo!”

Step by step

How to set the Caboclo Cobra Coral Candle

  1. 1

Take a guinea hen weed ritual bath before

Take a guinea hen weed ritual bath from the neck down. It is a leaf of defense, and entering clean into the skin-shedding ritual helps the candle to care for the new, and not for the rest of the old.

  2. 2

Make a circle of leaves on the plate

Arrange the leaves in a circle on the clay plate, like a serpent coiled over itself. The candle stays in the center of the circle, which speaks of cycle and continuity.

  3. 3

Say what you want to let go

Hold the candle and say in a low voice the old skin that needs to leave: a habit, a relationship, a fear. Then say what you want to be born in its place.

  4. 4

    Light and Hail the caboclo

Light with a match, give the cry Okê Caboclo! and do the prayer. Place the glass of water and the fruit beside it. If it rains that day, even better: many houses consecrate Oxumaré after the rain.

  5. 5

    Let the cycle close

Do not blow. When the candle finishes, the leaves and the fruit go to the earth of a garden or a large pot, the water waters a plant, and the wax goes wrapped in paper to the common trash.

Precautions before lighting

  • 7-day candle with leaves on the plate requires attention: keep the leaves away from the wick, use a firm plate, and do not leave the house empty with the flame lit.
  • Coral Snake defends, it does not poison. Do not ask for the envy to return to whoever sent it nor for someone to suffer; the caboclo works for the light.
  • A healing request accompanies the treatment and never replaces it. Continue with the doctor, the exams, and the medicines he indicated during the week of the candle.
  • Cutting spiritual attacks (demanda), a caboclo's firmeza, and assentamento are with the terreiro and the zelador. The candle at home only holds the request between one gira and another.

Ceromancy

What the flame of the Caboclo Cobra Coral Candle shows

Traditional terreiro reading. Before interpreting, check if there is no wind, crooked wick, or poor quality candle.

  • Good sign

    Flame that waves slowly

Many houses read the slow movement, like a serpent walking, as work of renewal in progress. Stay firm in what you decided to let go.

  • Good sign

Colorful glow at the tip of the flame

Some read color reflections in the flame as the presence of Oxumaré and a cycle opening. Take the opportunity to give thanks and to anchor what you want to continue.

  • Attention

    Strong and consecutive pops

Some houses understand this as envy or gossip being cut. Repeat the guinea hen weed ritual bath in the middle of the week and, if the feeling persists, take the case to a gira.

  • Attention

Wax that forms a thick shell

It can be a short wick or cold in the environment. Some read it as old skin that is hard to shed: redo the prayer request with more clarity about what you want to leave behind.

  • Observe

    Leaves that dry around

It is the natural heat of the candle on the plate. Move the leaves away from the wick for safety. There is no special reading: replace them with fresh leaves if you wish.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about the Vela de Caboclo Cobra Coral

What is the Caboclo Cobra Coral candle for?

To request renewal after a bad phase, defense against envy and gossip, strength during a treatment, and continuity of a gain that started well. It is a candle for shedding skin and for calm protection, without a prayer request to harm anyone.

Is Caboclo Cobra Coral from Oxumaré or Oxóssi?

Houses diverge. In the Candomblé of caboclo, Cobra Coral appears among the names linked to Oxumaré, the rainbow serpent. Many Umbanda terreiros set him with the other caboclos of the forest, under Oxóssi. Therefore, the candle carries yellow and green.

What is the best day to light the Cobra Coral caboclo candle?

Tuesday, the day of Oxumaré, in the houses that link him to this orixá. Thursday, the day of Oxóssi and of the caboclos, in those that place him in the forest line. If you attend a terreiro, follow the day the house uses for him.

Why does the snake appear in the statue of the caboclo?

Because it is his name. The coral snake is a serpent of the Brazilian forest, colorful and respected. In the statues, it appears next to the caboclo as a symbol of renewal, of defense, and of the connection with Oxumaré. It is not a sign of attack or of a spell.

Can I light a Cobra Coral candle to ward off envy?

You can. It is one of the most common uses of this candle, with a guinea hen weed ritual bath before and leaves on the plate. The prayer request is for protection, not for retaliation: ask that what comes from bad does not enter, and not that it returns to who sent it.

Can I blow out the caboclo candle before it finishes?

If you need to leave for many hours, smother the flame with a saucer or a metal lid, without blowing, and relight it upon returning while repeating the prayer request. Many houses teach that blowing out the candle undoes the prayer with one's own breath.
