In terreiros, it is used both in head obligations and in powerful fumigations, being recognized for its ability to attract good and repel dense energies.
💡 "Tradition says that the sunflower should never be planted with sadness in the heart, as the flower absorbs the feelings of whoever cultivates it. Therefore, in terreiros, plants are cared for by singing pontos and prayers, so that they grow impregnated with positive axé."

Native to the Americas, the sunflower was cultivated by indigenous peoples long before the arrival of Europeans, being considered a sacred plant associated with the sun and life. With colonization and the formation of Afro-Brazilian cultures, the sunflower was incorporated into ritual practices, gaining association with Oxalá due to its connection with light, and with Oxum due to its beauty and exuberance.
In the traditional garrafadas of Central Brazil, the raizeiro masters recognized in the knotted shape of the root the living metaphor of firmeza: the capacity to tie knots in adversity and remain standing even in arid lands.
Tradition tells that the sunflower should never be planted with sadness in the heart, as the flower absorbs the feelings of whoever cultivates it. Therefore, in the terreiros, plants are cared for by singing pontos and prayers, so that they grow impregnated with positive axé.
