Dandá da costa is one of the African roots most cited in the liturgy of Candomblé, present in powders, ritual baths, and precepts. It arrived with the enslaved peoples and remains indispensable in obligations to this day.
In the traditional garrafadas of Central Brazil, the raizeiro masters recognized in the knotted shape of the root the living metaphor of firmeza: the capacity to tie knots in adversity and remain standing even in arid lands.
