Caboclo Rompe Mato Candle
7-day candle · stays lit for 7 days7 dias
The Caboclo Rompe Mato candle is for when the path has disappeared in the middle of the woods. It brings the label of this warrior caboclo and two colors: green, from the forest where all caboclos live, and red, which many houses give to the caboclos of fight and of Ogum (Ogun). The name already explains the work: breaking through the closed forest and opening a trail where no one passes. It is lit on the congá, at the ponto of the caboclos of the terreiro, and by those who need courage to face what they have postponed.
Rompe Mato is the name of a falange that appears in many terreiros and gives name to temples from north to south of the country. Houses do not agree on his line: some count him among the caboclos of the forests of Oxóssi (Oshosi), others among the warrior caboclos of Ogum, alongside names like Rompe-Ferro and Sete Lanças. Do not confuse him with Ogum Rompe-Mato, who is a line of the orixá (orisha) himself in Umbanda. The cry is that of every caboclo: Okê Caboclo!
This candle works with strength, but not with anger. It does not knock anyone down for you to pass, nor does it avenge offense. What the caboclo does is go ahead, cut what binds, and show where to step. The rest of the journey is yours, one step per day, with your feet on the ground and a cool head.
What is it for
What is the Caboclo Rompe Mato Candle for
The Caboclo Rompe Mato candle is green on top and red on the bottom, with the label of the warrior caboclo of the closed forest. It is lit to open a blocked path, gain courage in the face of a big problem, cut a demanda, and start over from zero.
-
Unblocking a path that has been stuck for a long time
A process that is not moving, a construction that stalled, a project that no one approves. Light it asking that the caboclo goes ahead and shows where to start cutting the brush.
-
Courage to face what I postponed
The difficult conversation, the job change, the demand you are afraid to make. Rompe Mato is not afraid of the closed forest, and the candle asks for a bit of that steadiness.
-
Cutting a demanda that blocks life
For the feeling that everything goes wrong for no reason. With a ritual bath of aroeira and the candle lit, the caboclo is called to cut what was sent. Serious cases go to the gira.
-
Starting over after losing everything
After bankruptcy, separation, or forced change, when it is necessary to open a new farm plot (roça) in raw land. The candle firms the disposition to start small and not stop.
-
Firmeza in heavy manual labor
For those who work in the roça, on a construction site, or on the road and need a strong body and a clear head. Ask the caboclo for protection against accidents and endurance in the work.

Caboclo Rompe Mato
Warrior caboclo who opens the closed forest
The candle carries his label and the prayer request goes in his name. The name is the ritual work: to go ahead, cut vines and thorns, and open a path. Therefore, his candle is sought when the path is closed.
-
Oxóssi
King of the woods and father of the caboclos
Many houses place all the caboclos of the forest under Oxóssi, the hunter. The green at the top of the candle and the Thursday come from him, owner of the forest where Rompe Mato works.
Know Oxóssi -
Ogum
Lord of iron and war
Other houses count Rompe Mato among the warrior caboclos of Ogum, and hence the red at the base of the candle. Ogum is who opens the road with iron; houses diverge regarding the line.

Prayer to light
Prayer of the Caboclo Rompe Mato candle to open a path
“Okê Caboclo! Your Rompe Mato, I light this green and red light and call your name. Where my path disappeared in the woods, go ahead with your firm step. Cut the vine that ties my foot, remove from the path the thorn that hurts me and the fallen trunk that makes me turn back. Give me the courage of the warrior who does not run from the closed forest, but do not let me feel anger toward anyone. I promise to do my part: walk a little every day, even when tired. With permission from Pai Oxóssi and Pai Ogum, open the path for me to pass and show me the clearing on the other side. Okê Caboclo!”Light the candle and pray
Step by step
How to consecrate the Caboclo Rompe Mato Candle
- 1
Take the aroeira ritual bath before
Boil the aroeira leaves, wait for them to cool down, and pour from the neck down. It is a strong cutting ritual bath, and it prepares the body to arrive clean before the warrior caboclo.
- 2
Arrange the saucer like a path
Lay the snake plant (espada-de-são-jorge) leaves or abre-caminho leaves on the plate, with the tips facing forward. The candle stays in the middle, like someone standing at the beginning of the trail.
- 3
Say where the path is blocked
Hold the candle and speak clearly where the overgrown brush of your life is. One prayer request per candle. Caboclo likes a defined target and not a long list of desires.
- 4
Light it and give the war cry
Light with a match, give the cry Okê Caboclo! and say the prayer. Place the glass of water beside it. If you feel like it, stay standing while you pray: it is a candle for someone who will leave walking.
- 5
Return the leaves to the earth
Do not blow. When the candle finishes, the leaves and the water go to the earth of a garden or a large pot, and the wax goes wrapped in the common trash. Wash the plate before using it again.
Precautions before lighting
- A 7-day candle cannot stay near dry leaves, curtains, or children. Use a firm plate and keep the leaves of the saucer away from the wick.
- Rompe Mato cuts demanda, it does not attack people. Do not ask for someone to get hurt or lose their job for your path to open.
- Heavy spiritual attacks (demanda) and cutting ritual work with foundation are done with the caboclo on earth, in a gira, with the zelador of the house. The candle at home only anchors the prayer request.
- Aroeira can cause skin allergies. Test on a piece of your arm before the ritual bath, and those with skin health problems should ask a doctor.
Ceromancy
What the flame of the Vela de Caboclo Rompe Mato shows
Traditional terreiro reading. Before interpreting, check if there is no wind, crooked wick, or poor quality candle.
- Good sign
High, strong, and straight flame
Many houses read this as the caboclo in front, opening a path. Take advantage of the week to take the steps that were stuck: the candle firms, but the foot is yours.
- Good sign
Clean glass on the last day
A 7-day candle that ends with clear glass is usually read as cut brush and a free path. Give thanks with a fruit or another green candle.
- Attention
Many pops and sparks
Some read this as demanda being cut with a machete. Repeat the aroeira ritual bath in the middle of the week and, if the weight continues, take the case to a gira de caboclo.
- Attention
Black soot rising through the glass
It could be the charge burning or just a long wick. Trim the wick on the next candle; if it darkens again, seek guidance in a trusted terreiro.
- Observe
A flame that leans forward
It is almost always a draft of air. Protect the candle from the wind. Some see the caboclo walking in this, but it is not worth drawing a conclusion from a single sign.
Ritual bath and smoke cleansing (defumação)
Herbs that combine with the Caboclo Rompe Mato Candle
-
Pepper tree (aroeira)
Schinus terebinthifolius
A strong cutting herb, much used by the warrior caboclos. The ritual bath from the neck down before consecrating the candle removes the weight that blocks the path.
See the herb -
Saint George's Sword / Ogum's Sword
Sansevieria trifasciata
A leaf of war and defense. Lying on the plate with the tip facing forward, it becomes the trail that the candle will open, and then returns to the earth.
See the herb -
Abre-Caminho / Lacre
Justicia gendarussa
The name is the prayer request. A path-opening herbal bath in the middle of the week or a branch next to the plate reinforces the intention to unlock what has stopped.

Questions about the Caboclo Rompe Mato Candle
What is the Caboclo Rompe Mato candle for?
To open a blocked path, gain courage in the face of a big problem, cut a demanda, and start from zero. The caboclo goes ahead and shows where to step; the walk continues to be yours. It is not a candle for revenge or a prayer request against another person.
Are Caboclo Rompe Mato and Ogum Rompe-Mato the same spirit?
No. Ogum Rompe-Mato is one of the lines of the orixá Ogum in Umbanda, the one who fights in the forest. Caboclo Rompe Mato is a caboclo, a spirit guide who incorporates in the gira and gives consultations. The names overlap because both speak of opening the closed forest.
Is Caboclo Rompe Mato from Oxóssi or from Ogum?
It depends on the house. Many count him among the caboclos of the forests, under Oxóssi. Others place him among the warrior caboclos of Ogum. That is why the candle carries the green of the forest and the red of the fight. If you attend a terreiro, follow what the house teaches.
What is the best day to light a candle for Caboclo Rompe Mato?
Thursday, the day of the caboclos and of Oxóssi, preferably early in the morning. Houses that set Rompe Mato with Ogum use Tuesday. For an urgent path prayer request, any day in the morning serves, with respect.
Can I light the Caboclo Rompe Mato candle in an apartment?
You can, with care. Use a firm plate on a surface that does not burn, away from curtains and strong drafts, and leave the window ajar for the smoke to escape. The leaves from the plate will later go to the soil of a pot or a public square.
What is the difference between the Rompe Mato candle and the Sete Flechas one?
Both are from the caboclo of the forest. Sete Flechas is sought more for focus, aim, and healing through leaves. Rompe Mato is called when the path is closed and courage and cutting are needed. Many people light the Rompe Mato one first and the Sete Flechas one later.
