Why do so many people believe these myths?
Much of what is repeated about Afro-Brazilian religions comes from prejudice, hearsay and centuries of persecution. The best known myth is that Exu would be the devil, an idea that came from colonial Christian reading and that the tradition never had.
Other myths are more subtle: thinking that umbanda and candomblé are the same thing, that each person has only one Orixá, or that there is a unique color and date for each Orixá. The truth is that the houses vary, and variation is part of the tradition.
Each answer in the game links to the blog article that explains the subject calmly. After playing, try the Orixás Quiz and the Afro-Brazilian calendar.
