Why does each Orixá have their own food?

Each Orixá has their own food of the orixá, linked to their history and nature: the okra in the dendê of Xangô's amalá, the acarajé of Iansã, the popcorn of Obaluaê, the white canjica of Oxalá and the sweet potato in the shape of a snake of Oxumaré.

Just as important as the dish is the quizila, what cannot be included. The same okra that Xangô receives is the quizila of Ogum, and the honey that sweetens so many offerings stays away from Oxóssi. See the step by step in how to make an offering to the Orixás.
