The Pombagira Sete Saias candle is the votive candle of one of the most well-known spiritual legions of the left, present in Quimbanda and in the giras of Exu (Eshu) in Umbanda. Those who seek it are usually in a moment of blockage: joy has disappeared, business has stopped, a life decision calls for courage. The version on this page is a 7-day candle, half red and half gold, with the label painted as Dona Sete Saias.

Pombagira is not an orixá (orisha) and is not a figure of evil. She is the feminine of Exu, a guardian who works at the crossroads, a place of choice and passage. Sete Saias is the name of a spiritual legion: many spirits serve under it, and each house knows one with its own style. Red and black are the base colors of the line; gold comes from some houses that link Sete Saias to abundance, and it is not a general rule. Friday night is the most cited day.

Lit at home, this candle is a request made with respect, not a ritual work of assentamento. It asks for a clean environment, an honest mind, and no desire to bind anyone. Sete Saias is a symbol of feminine freedom, and whoever lights it for her asking to dominate another person is knocking on the wrong door.

What is it for

What is the Pombagira Sete Saias Candle for

The Sete Saias candle joins the red of the Pombagira line to the gold of abundance. It is lit for Dona Sete Saias, guardian of the crossroads, when the prayer request is for joy, self-esteem, courage to decide, and movement in work with the public.

  • Recover the joy of living

When the days turned gray and the desire to get ready, go out, and laugh was gone. Sete Saias is a spirit of celebration, and the candle asks that this lightness slowly returns.

  • Self-esteem and self-love

For those who are diminishing themselves, accepting little, or hiding. The prayer request here is to look in the mirror and recognize yourself again, without depending on anyone's approval.

  • Movement in commerce and sales

Frequently lit by those who work in customer service, salons, stores, or direct sales. It asks for clientele and good conversation, and the work effort continues to be your own.

  • Courage to make a decision

Crossroads is choice. Faced with two paths, such as moving cities, leaving a job, or ending something that hurts, the candle asks for resolve to choose and move forward.

  • Clarity in love, without binding anyone

To see a relationship with honesty, to attract those who add value, and to distance yourself from what causes harm. It is not for dominating another person's will, and no serious Pombagira does that.

  • Protection in coming and going

As guardian of the crossroads, she watches over those who circulate at night, those who work on the street, and those who need defense against envy and evil eye in the work environment.

    Pombagira Sete Saias

Mistress of the flowing skirt and the crossroads

The candle carries its name and its label. Sete Saias is a spiritual legion (falange) of the feminine of Exu, works at the crossroads and receives the red of the line. Many houses read the seven of the name along with the seven kingdoms of Quimbanda, and the skirts as a sign of who travels between worlds.

Prayer to light

Prayer of the Pombagira Sete Saias candle

“Dona Sete Saias, guardian of the crossroads, I ask permission to light this light in your name. I arrive without bargaining and without resentment from anyone, only with what I carry in my chest. Spin your skirt over my life and scatter away the discouragement, the shame of myself and the fear of choosing. Teach me to walk with my head held high, to demand my worth and to open the door for those who add. Guard my paths when I go out at night and my door when I return. If what I ask is not good for me, show me another way and I accept. Receive this flame as respect and gratitude. Laroyê, Dona Sete Saias! She is Mojubá!”

Step by step

How to consecrate the Pombagira Sete Saias Candle

  1. 1

Take a ritual bath before starting

A ritual bath of red roses or rue, from the neck down, removes the weight of the day. Pombagira likes those who arrive groomed and perfumed, inside and out.

  2. 2

Set up the corner outside the right congá

The candle for the left stays separate from the saints and orixás, in a low corner, preferably near the door or outside the house, in a place protected from wind and children.

  3. 3

    Arrange the roses around

Cover the plate, place the candle in the center and the seven open roses around. Many houses request the flower already open, and not in bud, for the Pombagira.

  4. 4

Ask for permission and greet the owner

Light with a match, say "Laroyê, Dona Sete Saias" and explain the prayer request with simple and honest words. Then say the prayer and spray a little perfume in the air.

  5. 5

Dispose of the offering with care at the end

Let the candle burn until the end, without blowing. When it goes out, the roses go to the earth of a garden or a pot, and the leftover wax goes wrapped in the common trash.

Precautions before lighting

  • 7-day candle heats the glass. Support on a ceramic plate, away from curtains, loose cloth, alcohol and drinks, and out of reach of children and animals.
  • Do not use this candle to bind, separate, or dominate the will of another person. Sete Saias is a force of freedom, and a request like that does not belong to her.
  • Assentamento, crossroads work, and offering with drink belong to the house's own tradition. This is done with the leader of your terreiro, not alone at home.
  • If you are taking flowers to a crossroads, collect plastic, glass, and paper. Respect for the spirit is also respect for the street and those who pass through it.

Ceromancy

What the flame of the Pombagira Sete Saias Candle shows

Traditional terreiro reading. Before interpreting, check if there is no wind, crooked wick, or poor quality candle.

  • Good sign

    High flame, alive and dancing

Many houses read the flame that moves joyfully, without smoke, as a sign that the spirit accepted the offering and is near. It is the expected burning for Sete Saias.

  • Good sign

    Wax that drips forming designs

On the 7-day candle, the red wax that descends along the glass in curves is usually read as movement: the request is moving, even if slowly.

  • Attention

Low and weak flame for a long time

It can be a short wick or the exhaustion of the one who made the request. It is worth reviewing if the request is clear and fair, taking a herbal bath, and lighting it again on another Friday.

  • Attention

    Glass completely black with soot

Some houses read it as a heavy load being burned on the path. If it repeats in several candles, seek a serious gira de esquerda to talk with the one who has the foundation.

  • Observe

Candle that goes out before the end

First check for drafts, a drowned wick, and the quality of the candle. If everything is correct, relight with a match, renew the greeting, and proceed without fear.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about the Pombagira Sete Saias Candle

What is the Pombagira Sete Saias candle for?

It serves to request joy, self-esteem, courage to decide, and movement in commerce, as well as protection for those walking the streets. It is a firmeza of respect to the spirit, lit with an honest request. It is not for binding anyone nor for harming another person.

What is the best day to light the Sete Saias candle?

Friday night is the most cited day in the houses. There are terreiros that work the line on Monday, along with the souls. There is no single rule: if you attend a house, follow the day that your leader teaches.

Can I light a Pombagira candle inside the house?

You can, as long as it remains separate from the altar of the saints and orixás, in a low and safe corner, preferably near the door. Many people prefer the outdoor area or the balcony. What is not done at home, without guidance, is consecrated foundation or crossroads ritual work.

Can I blow out the Sete Saias candle and light it later?

The ideal is to let it burn until the end. If it is necessary to interrupt, smother it with a saucer, without blowing, and relight it with a match as soon as you can, repeating the greeting. Blowing is seen as undoing the prayer request with your own breath.

What is the difference between the Sete Saias candle and the Maria Padilha one?

They are different spiritual legions (falange) of the same feminine of Exu. Maria Padilha is much sought for matters of the heart and posture, and Sete Saias for joy, decision, and movement in work. In practice, the colors look similar, and what changes is the spirit called on the label and in the prayer.

What to do with the roses and the leftover candle wax after?

The withered roses go into the soil of a pot, a garden, or a square, without plastic. The leftover wax goes wrapped in paper for the common trash, and the glass can be washed and recycled. Do not reuse the leftover for another spirit.
