The Guardian Angel candle is the first devotion for many people. It was the grandmother who taught the Holy Angel of the Lord before sleeping, it was the mother who lit a candle on the day of the first trip alone. This candle has its own label to make it clear to whom it is dedicated: to the personal protector, the one who belongs to no one else but you.
The Church teaches that each person has an angel that accompanies them and celebrates the Holy Guardian Angels on October 2. During the week, Tuesday is traditionally for the angels, and many people prefer Sunday or the day of their own birthday. In Umbanda, the angel is remembered as the light that walks alongside each child, and many houses ask that his candle be lit before any other.
White is the most used color, because the angel is imagined as light without mixture. Some people prefer light blue for requests for calm. At home, the custom is to place the candle in a high place, like looking up while praying. It does not cut demanda nor resolve someone else's fight: its work is to guard, warn, and calm.

How to consecrate the Guardian Angel Candle

Choose a point above the head
The top of a shelf or a cabinet, away from curtains and wooden ceilings. Leave a palm's width free above the flame so the heat does not mark anything.

The angel is personal. Before lighting, say your full name and the date you were born. If the candle is for a child's angel, say their name.

Do not blow. When the candle finishes, the water from the cup goes to a plant and the cup is washed. The wax wrapped in paper can go in the common trash.
Precautions before lighting
- Candle at height requires a firm surface and nothing flammable nearby. Never light inside the child's room: prefer the hallway or the living room.
- The angel's protection does not replace the seatbelt, the helmet, and attention in traffic. Pray and take care the same way.

- In the terreiro, to consecrate the angel may have its own foundation from the house. For this, follow the zelador; the house candle is simple devotion.
