Whoever looks for the Wladimir Romani candle is almost always facing a door: a business that needs to sell, a move to a new city, a proposal that has not yet left the paper. It is a votive candle from Umbanda, with the Romani spirit's label and his two colors, blue and gold, divided horizontally. It is lit on the congá, in the shop, or in the corner of the house where the person prays for their own livelihood.

Wladimir, also written as Vladimir, is one of the most called names among the Romani spirits who work in the Oriente Line. In the giras, he arrives as a man of the road and of negotiation, cheerful and direct in his advice. The day, the colors, and the radiation change significantly from terreiro to terreiro: Friday is the most cited, and there are houses that place the Romani people under Oxum (Oshun), others under Iansã (Oya) or Xangô (Shango). Saint Sarah Kali, patron saint of the Romani people, is usually greeted together.

At home, this candle asks for care more than haste. Washed coins, a bit of cinnamon, a sweet fruit, and a tidy table already say a lot. It does not make money appear out of nowhere nor does it decide for you: it helps to see the opportunity, to talk better, and to continue the journey with a protected path.

What is it for

What is the Wladimir Romani Candle for

Blue at the base and gold at the top, the Cigano Wladimir candle is firmada for the Linha do Oriente. It accompanies prayer requests for prosperity in commerce, good negotiation, protection on travel, and courage to start life over in another place.

  • Movement in commerce and sales

For the stagnant shop, the service that does not appear, or the tight month. Light it at the workplace and pray for the flow of customers, while you also take care of the service and the price.

  • Negotiate without losing what is yours

Before closing a contract, asking for a raise, or settling a debt. The Romani spirit is remembered for sharp conversation: the candle asks for clarity to listen, propose, and know the time to retreat.

  • Protection on the road and on travel

Those who live on the road, will move cities, or spend time away light it so that the departure and return are peaceful. Firm the candle on the eve and let it burn while traveling, with safety.

  • Courage to start over

For those who lost their job, closed a business, or are leaving a difficult phase. The candle helps to let go of what was left behind and face the new with the freedom that the Romani people teach.

  • Seeing the right opportunity

When there are two proposals on the table or an investment that causes fear. The prayer request is for discernment, to separate the true chance from the beautiful talk that cannot be sustained.

  • Thank for what has already arrived

Sale made, peaceful trip, open door. The Romani custom is to return with a candle, a fruit, and a toast to give thanks, because those who recognize what they received keep the path open.

    Patroness of the Romani people

Many houses greet Saint Sarah before calling the Romani spirits. It is a devotion welcomed by Umbanda, not an orixá (orisha) nor a spirit that incorporates, and she enters here as protection for those who ask for the caravan.

Prayer to light

Prayer of the Cigano Wladimir candle for work and for the road

“Cigano Wladimir, who knows the value of each coin and the weight of each road, receive this blue and gold light that I light in your name. Look upon my work with the same gaze with which you choose the path of the caravan. Where there is a closed door, show me the window. Where there is a deceptive proposal, let me perceive it before I sign. Give steadiness to my hands and lightness to my word, so that I know how to sell, ask, and thank in the right measure. Guard my departure and my return on every trip. May the bread of this house come from my honest effort and may I share with joy what arrives. Saint Sarah Kali, cover with your mantle all those who live on the road. Optchá!”

Step by step

How to firmar the Cigano Wladimir Candle

  1. 1

Arrange the table as if for a visitor

Cover the spot with the handkerchief and leave everything clean and beautiful. The Romani people (cigano) like care, and the arrangement is already part of the prayer request. It can be on the shop counter or in a corner of the room.

  2. 2

    Greet the caravan before lighting

Say an Optchá in a low voice and ask permission from Saint Sarah Kali and the Romani people. If you attend a house, follow the way of calling that your zelador teaches.

  3. 3

    Make the circle of coins

Place the candle in the center of the plate and the seven coins around it, with the cinnamon and cloves between them. The fruit stays to the side, as an offering of joy and shared abundance.

  4. 4

Light it and count your path

Light it with a match and speak with the Romani spirit (cigano) as if having a conversation: what you want to sell, where you are going, what decision you need to make. Be concrete and do not promise what you will not fulfill.

  5. 5

Extinguish without blowing out the flame

Let the candle burn until the end. Then keep one of the coins in your wallet or cash register, return the fruit to nature, and throw the leftover wax in the common trash, wrapped in paper.

Precautions before lighting

  • The 7-day candle stays on a firm plate, away from curtains, paper, loose handkerchiefs, and out of reach of children and animals. When leaving home, leave it in a closed and secure place.
  • A request to the Romani spirit is for your own path. Do not light it to take advantage of someone, deceive a client, or interfere with another person's will.
  • The rituals of the Eastern Line (Linha do Oriente) have their own foundation in each house. If you attend a terreiro, the way to call your Romani spirit is with the zelador there.
  • Remember that the Romani spirit of Umbanda is not a portrait of the real Romani people, who deserve respect and no stereotypes.

Ceromancy

What the flame of the Cigano Wladimir Candle shows

Traditional terreiro reading. Before interpreting, check if there is no wind, crooked wick, or poor quality candle.

  • Good sign

    High, lively, and cheerful flame

It is read as a sign that the request was well received and that the path of the work is moving. Keep doing your part, because the candle accompanies those who walk.

  • Good sign

    Golden flame, almost no smoke

Many houses understand this glow as the presence of the Romani people nearby, especially in requests for prosperity. A good moment to give thanks again.

  • Attention

Flame that dances from side to side

It usually points to indecision or a conversation that is still poorly resolved. Before closing the deal, it is worth listening to the parties again and waiting for the candle to finish calmly.

  • Attention

A lot of dark smoke on the plate

It may indicate weight in the work environment or envy nearby. Clean the area and, if the sign repeats, seek guidance in a trusted terreiro.

  • Observe

    Wax dripping over the coins

Almost always it is just the wick, the heat of the day, or a draft, and it does not require a special reading. When the candle finishes, scrape the wax off the coins and keep one of them.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about the Cigano Wladimir Candle

What is the Cigano Wladimir candle for?

It serves to ask for prosperity at work, good negotiation, protection on travel, and strength to start over. It is a votive candle from the Oriente Line in Umbanda, lit for the Romani spirit with coins, fruits, and care on the table, always accompanying the effort of those who ask.

What is the best day to light the Cigano Wladimir candle?

Friday is the most cited, but the day of the Romani people varies greatly between terreiros. Many people also choose the waxing or full moon for prosperity requests. If you attend a house, follow the day they hold the Romani gira.

Can I blow out the 7-day candle and light it again?

The ideal is not to blow it out. If necessary, smother the flame with a saucer, without blowing, and relight it as soon as you can, repeating the greeting. Since it is for seven days, choose a place from the beginning where it can burn safely.

What to do with the coins and the fruit afterwards?

Keep one of the coins in your wallet or cash register as a reminder of the request and use the others normally or donate them. The fruit returns to nature, at the foot of a tree or in a garden. The leftover wax goes wrapped in the common trash.

What is the difference between the Wladimir Romani candle and the Sulamita Romani candle?

Both are from the Romani people, but the requests are usually different. Wladimir's is more sought after for work, business, and the road; Sulamita's, for love, self-esteem, and joy. Nothing prevents consecrating both side by side, each with its own request.

Is Wladimir, the Romani spirit, a spirit of the left?

In most Umbanda houses, no. The Romani people of the Eastern Line work on the right, with baths, herbs, and advice. There are guardians of the left with Romani attire, such as the Pombagira Cigana, but it is another line. Some houses, however, say the Romani people move between right and left depending on the ritual work.

Can I light the Romani candle at home without being from a terreiro?

You can, as devotion and with respect. Arrange the table, greet the Romani people, and make the request in your own words. What requires deeper foundation, such as an assentamento (consecrated seat) or gira work, stays with the zelador of an Umbanda house.
