Te Deum

Te Deum laudamus

It is the great hymn of thanksgiving of the Church. It is prayed to thank for a grace obtained and, by tradition, on the last day of the year.

We praise You, O God, we bless You, Lord. All the earth worships You, eternal and almighty Father.

The angels, the heavens and all the powers, the cherubim and the seraphim acclaim You without ceasing: Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of the universe; heaven and earth proclaim Your glory.

The glorious choir of the apostles, the venerable company of the prophets, the resplendent army of the martyrs sing Your praises.

The holy Church announces throughout the earth the glory of Your name: God of infinite majesty, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Lord Jesus Christ, King of glory, Son of the eternal Father, to save man You took the human condition in the womb of the Virgin Mary.

You broke the chains of death and opened the gates of heaven. You are seated at the right hand of God, in the glory of the Father, and again You shall come to judge the living and the dead.

Everyone kneels at the following verse.

Save Your servants, Lord, whom You redeemed with Your precious blood, and receive them into the light of glory, in the assembly of Your saints.

Save Your people, Lord, and bless Your inheritance; be their shepherd and guide through the times and lead them to the fountains of eternal life.

We shall bless you every day of our lives and praise your name forever.

Deign, O Lord, on this day, to deliver us from sin. Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us.

Let your mercy descend upon us, for in you we hope. In you I hope, my God, I shall not be confounded forever.

Verses and final prayer

V. Let us bless the Father and the Son, with the Holy Spirit.

R. Let us praise him and exalt him for all the ages of ages.

V. Lord, hear my prayer.

R. And let my cry reach you.

Let us pray. O God, whose mercy is infinite and whose goodness is inexhaustible, we give thanks to your divine majesty for the goods we receive, always imploring your clemency, so that, without abandoning those to whom you grant what they ask, you may prepare them to receive eternal rewards. Through Our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, in the unity of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
