Prayer for the deceased (Byzantine tradition)

Comes from the liturgy of the Eastern Churches and is in the Compendium of the Catechism. It asks for a place of light and coolness for the deceased, where there is no pain. Say the name of the person where the letter N is.

O God of the spirits and of all flesh, who conquered death, annihilated the devil and gave life to the world: you, O Lord, grant to the soul of your servant N., deceased, rest in a luminous place, in a verdant place, in a place of freshness, where there is no suffering, pain, and groans.

Because you are a good and merciful God, forgive all the guilt committed by him in words, deeds, or thoughts, since there is no man who does not sin, and only you are without sin; your justice is eternal justice and your word is the truth.

You who are the resurrection, the life, and the rest of your servant N., deceased, O Christ our God, we give you glory, in communion with your unbegotten Father and with your most holy, good, and life-giving Spirit, now and forever and for ages of ages. Rest in peace. Amen.
